DON’T go overboard with highlighter: Light reflecting particles in highlighter products do exactly that – so care needs to be taken not to overdo it when you are having your professional photographs taken.

DO try strip false lashes: Your wedding day is the perfect day to maximise the beauty of your peepers. Strip false lashes will enhance your eyes, giving them that extra pop and appearance of being bigger, particularly in front of the camera. However, don't wait until the wedding day to trial them, try them out in advance and at the trial, just to make sure you are used to wearing them come the big day.

DON’T sit in silence: You’ve had your make-up trial and you’re not sure about something… Then just tell your make-up artist. A good artist will not be offended and they will be more than happy to make any tweaks to get that perfect bridal look. This is what the trial is all about, and so is the perfect forum for making any changes.

DO have inspiration pictures: This really helps the make-up artist understand your vision and also what you like (and don’t like). Bring along magazine clippings and/or a Pinterest board of all the things that you love.

DO be careful having friends or family do your make-up: You won’t mind telling a professional make-up artist that you don’t like something, and you won’t offend them. I have seen this on many occasion, and it’s so difficult to tell a friend or family member that you don’t like something. However, a professional will know what products perform the best and work in front of the camera.

DON'T forget your eyebrows: Eyebrows are very popular at the moment and it’s not surprising, as they frame your eyes and face, and really help complete the look. So fill in your brows to give them a natural, full shape.

DO
opt for waterproof mascara: If there is any day with guaranteed waterworks, it’s your wedding day. From stepping onto the aisle, to the speeches, to your first dance as Mr and Mrs, there are bound to be tears of joy a-flowing. However, your make-up doesn’t have to be!

If you are looking for a beautiful, naturally glowing look that will last all day & evening, and look great both in front of the camera lens and your guests, then it might be an idea to consider booking a professional make-up artist. If you would like to do your own makeup, you could have a bridal tutorial to learn some top make-up tips and product advice, whilst creating together your perfect bridal makeup look.

New Vintage Makeup Lesson

Picture
“Elegance is the only beauty that never fades”

~ Audrey Hepburn ~

Looking for ways to change up your makeup?

Wanting to learn some new makeup techniques?

Dress vintage, but not sure where to start with your vintage makeup?

Or just want to add a vintage twist to your makeup?

Then my Vintage Makeup Lesson may be the perfect lesson for you!

In this Vintage Makeup Lesson, you will learn glamorous retro makeup ideas to help you switch up your look, and incorporate them into, not just your party looks, but also your everyday makeup!

We can sometimes consider vintage makeup to be just for costume parties and formal events. But, it’s also an easy & fun way to make sure you stand out in your everyday life, particularly if your personal style is quite retro/ vintage.

For example, one of my lovely brides, Louise, has a personal style that’s vintage but with a modern twist. And for her wedding day, to complement her stunning white two piece satin wedding gown, we chose a feline eyeliner that was very much Louise’s signature look, emphasised with some false lashes. Then to complete her vintage look, we went with the classic vintage Mac Cosmetic’s Ruby Woo lipstick for the lips. All very elegantly classic & timeless old Hollywood glamour, but with a modern Louise twist!

Loved working with Louise and creating this beautiful vintage bridal makeup look.

I also do bridal makeup tutorials, where we could easily incorporate your vintage styling into the lesson.

Picture
Beautiful bride, Louise, putting a gorgeous modern twist on the glamorous old Hollywood vintage look

When we think vintage, we think of the classic & very iconic 1950s Marilyn Monroe makeup look of winged eyeliner & red lips. But vintage makeup inspiration can be taken from any era, such as the roaring ‘20s, right through to the ‘80s or even ‘90s!

And, you can put your own modern twist on a classic vintage look of your choice.

So, why not channel your inner Marilyn Monroe or Twiggy, and have fun learning how to create a beautiful vintage look that suits you & your style!

You’ll look fantastic, feel elegant, and be ready to hit the town (or just your normal day!) looking vintage beautiful!

This Vintage Makeup Lesson lasts for 3 hours, but depending on how many looks you want to learn, we can book more time to suit your needs. A 3hr Vintage Makeup Lesson is £130, which also includes a free pair of lashes [worth £10], if you decide to incorporate them into your chosen look). For more details re what is included in this lesson, and all my lessons, click here.

If you would like a girlie together with a few friends for a hen's party, birthday party or just a fun night of vintage glamour, then you have come to the right place! Bubbles and nibbles will also be provided for this great vintage fun event! Get in touch to obtain a quote for your group.

This makeup lesson is suitable for all abilities, from beginner right up to the more experienced who just want to add to their skillset.

I'm beyond excited to be introducing this fun, glamourous & very elegant makeup lesson into the current lesson range!

New Mature Skin Makeup Lesson

9/6/2022

Picture
" Growing older gracefully means having a keen curiosity about learning things about the world that you didn't know yesterday - no matter how many yesterdays you've had!"

~ Padma Lakshmi~

Want to learn how to apply makeup to help make you look 10 years younger?

Not changed your makeup for years, or perhaps never?

Watched lots of YouTube tutorials, but looking for the right products & colours that suit your complexion?

Not sure where to start, and wary of adding years rather than taking them off?

Then my new Mature Skin Makeup Lesson might be exactly what you’re looking for!

Picture
Jacqueline's makeup lesson, with a lesson goal of the correct products for her skin type

Following feedback from my lovely clients, I have added a new lesson to the current range of makeup lessons available to you.

As we get older, as well as our skin texture changing, our eye & face shape also change. And all those products & techniques we have been using for years may no longer suit, and instead end up adding years on. Exactly the opposite to what we want to achieve!

Makeup, when used in the correct way, is designed to enhance your natural beauty, emphasising your best features and minimising the wee areas you’re not quite as happy with now.

And that’s where my new Mature Skin Makeup Lesson comes in!

My clients are always really surprised at what can be achieved with the absolute minimum of product.

Picture
Sheila's makeup lesson, with a lesson goal of an achievable every day look with beautiful, radiant skin

Common Concerns the Mature Skin Makeup Lesson Addresses:

Many of us tend to change our skin care over the years as our skin changes, but when it comes to makeup, it often gets overlooked, and may never have changed since our younger years.

But just like our skin care, our makeup also needs to adapt and change with age. Make-up really does have the power to take years off a person, when used correctly. And this is why a makeup lesson is so beneficial and will equip you with the makeup artistry skillset to adapt and create the perfect makeup look for your skin and your own personal style. Giving you skills that you will use for many years to come.

Some of the common areas of concern for the mature woman are hooded eyes, dark circles, under eye bags, crow’s feet, fine lines & wrinkles, and thinning lips. This Mature Skin Makeup Lesson gives you lots of tips and tricks for all of these areas and more.

Who is this lesson for?

Although there is no definitive age when it comes to mature skin, I find that my clients aged around 40+ to 70+ benefit most from my Mature Skin lesson. But there is absolutely no upper age limit on this lesson, and wanting to feel beautiful & looking after yourself.

Plus, most of us, from the age of about 30, find that you need to start adapting your makeup and techniques a wee bit. As the same things don't work as well, or no longer look like they once did.

Makeup has changed so much in the last 10 or so years, let alone 20 years! There are better products on the market, more makeup techniques than ever before, and just so much more variety and education available. Which can all be a bit confusing too, and why a makeup lesson helps you to hone it down to what works best for you!

Plus, this lesson is a fun & relaxed experience, offering you another form of self-care, as well as confidence building when it comes to doing your own makeup. Makeup should be fun, and not something to be wary of or avoid. It is for all ages, and not just the young’uns!

It really has never been a better time to learn new tricks, and you’re certainly never too old to learn them either!

Some kind words from our Mature Skin Makeup Lesson cover girl, Carol -

'I am a mature woman who needed help with makeup. I wanted to be smart and well turned out. I have watched many videos on Youtube about techniques, but I needed to find the right products and colours that would suit me. I searched the internet to find a makeup artist who would be able to give me lessons and advice.

I found Colette's website which gave a lot of information and offered one-to-one tuition. I was delighted to meet Colette in her home studio. She took great care with all Covid precautions and hygiene, and put me at my ease immediately.

I came away with lots of information which was followed up by a written summary of the lesson.

Colette made suggestions about which of my own makeup would be suitable and so I did not have to purchase a whole new kit. I have bought some new pieces and I am delighted that the colours are a perfect match for me.

This was a great experience and I am sure a lot of mature ladies would enjoy this immensely....in fact it would be a wonderful gift for Mother's Day or special birthdays.

Thank you Colette.'  Carol Smith

2021 Makeup Memories

27/1/2022

Picture
What a year 2021 has been - it started off with high hopes after not being able to work for 9 months in 2020. But after a slow road road to freedom, thankfully, contact services were allowed to work from June 2021. Making the latter half of 2021 a really fantastic one, with some truly special standout moments and memories.

There has been some fabulous weddings (that were rescheduled due to Covid), special occasion makeups, photo shoots, bridal tutorials and make-up lessons!

I'm just so happy and grateful to be back with my fab wee clients and other creatives again. Life is finally starting to feel a wee bit more 'normal' again (even with the face masks!).

There are some exciting things planned for the year ahead, and I'm really looking forward to meeting and working with more amazing people!

And scrolling back through my feed and images, I have some really lovely memories to share with you - I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

And here’s to many more in 2022!

Wedding Makeup and Special Occasion Makeup:

Julia booked a group bridal tutorial with her two bridesmaids and did such a fabulous job on the day, I'm sure you'll agree!

In September, my very lovely bride, Megan, on her wedding day at the Norton house Hotel, when I had the honour of being there in person to do both hers and her fab bridal party's wedding makeup.

After doing Megan's makeup as a bridesmaid 5 years before and also after postponing her wedding twice, it was all the more special and a wedding I will never forget. Loved every minute of being there on Megan & John's special day!

Megan and her bridal party's hair was done by the fab ladies at Cabello Hair.

Flowers were by Garlands Florist Edinburgh.

Finishing touches before Megan walks up the aisle...

My lovely wee December/Christmas bride, Antonia, had a makeup lesson as well as booking me for her wedding day makeup.

And after two postponements due to Covid-19, her big day finally arrived when she got to walk down the aisle to marry her fiancé, Stewart, at the stunning Archerfield House.

It was a total joy and honour to be there with Antonia on her special day.

Antonia's hair was done by the fab Emma Combe Bridal Hair.

This was one of my first photo shoots of 2021, and it certainly didn't disappoint!

St James Square were wanting images for their brand new shopping mall, and I just loved every second of working with this fab team of creatives. There were so many amazing images to choose from, so it was tricky to shortlist but here are a few to give you an idea of this fabulous shoot. Some behind-the-scenes ones as well!

Some of the behind-the-scenes antics!

In September, the lovely Ola booked my editorial makeup service for her 40th birthday shoot. And this was no ordinary birthday shoot - Ola had photos taken at the beautiful Hermitage of Braid and along the Royal Mile. Just beautiful, dreamy images to have as lovely memories of a milestone age.

In November, Mette, from Freja Fashion, approached me about a shoot she was organising for non-binary bridal fashion. It was to be part of a documentary being showcased in Scottish Fashion Week.

Mette explored gender-fluid bridal wear and challenged the traditional ideas around wedding fashion of ‘bride & groom’ gender stereotypes. Highlighting that wedding designs can be gender-fluid, and so, more in the line with fashion, which has become inclusively gender free. Helping to raise the profile of non-binary weddings and seek to support a more inclusive service.

And as you'll see from the images, it was a total dream to be part of this project. Pro images are from Fern Photography, and have included some behind-the-scenes images for you as well!

And some behind-the-scenes of the shoot...

After this and just before Christmas, I had the pleasure of being involved with Wendy & Katie's engagement shoot with Geebz Photography. Wendy & Katie came all the way from Detroit, USA, for it and were just a delight to work with.

Here are some images from their shoot, which also has a wee festive feel to it!

And finally, 2021 saw my business receive, not one, but two make-up awards - talk about cherry (or cherries) on the cake!

* Scottish Short Film Festival ‘Best Make Up’ Award for the period film ‘Custodian’ - Finalist *

* UK Enterprise Elite Awards ‘Most Outstanding Professional Make-Up Artist’ - WINNER *

Rounding off the year very nicely indeed :)

The Best Christmas Gift Experience for Her (or Him!) 2021

28/10/2021

Picture
Now I know it may seem a bit early to be thinking about Christmas, but it is fast approaching, which means it’s that time of year to start writing our annual Christmas list for loved ones. And after the year or more that we’ve all had, a lovely beauty experience is something that should be at the top of your list for them (and yourself)!

With lockdown lifted and people finally being able to go out again, treating ourselves to being pampered with a special occasion makeup or makeup lesson has never been more popular with my clients. And so important. As it’s a really lovely form of self-care for people.

Since re-opening my studio, I have had so many kind words from my clients who have really enjoyed their lessons – which melts my heart. I just love spending time with people, helping them to learn about makeup and how to apply it to best enhance their complexion and features.

I equally love the fact that they really relax and enjoy the couple of hours taken out of their day to focus on doing something really nice for themselves.

'Colette is a magician - not only because she made 2.5 hours (Easy Evening Makeup Lesson) disappear in a flash, but also because she made me feel a million dollars!

Seriously, Colette is a real professional and a talented makeup artist. She pays attention to detail, really knows her products and makes you feel relaxed and natural. I also liked the way she tried to use as many of my brushes and products as possible.

The follow up detail is incredible and certainly more than I expected.

Thank you Colette for a wonderful morning and new skills that I will use for a long time to come.'  Liz Martin

And with this in mind, I have decided to provide a wee offering, to help spread some Christmas  cheer :)

So for the month of November, you get a whopping £10 off my Makeup Lesson & Brush Set lesson (£160 rrp) – making it just £150!

And for all of my newsletter subscribers, I’m making it 10% off instead, which is a fantastic £16 discount!  If you would like to subscribe, just scroll down to the bottom of this blog post :)

Picture

You not only get a 2hr makeup lesson for this reduced price, but also a professional 12 brush set AND brush holder worth £80. Along with an explanatory guide on how to use each brush. Just amazing value and a fantastic Christmas present for your loved ones, and even a wee present to yourself!

Picture
Picture

This is the perfect, unique experience gift for someone who has everything. For someone who loves makeup and wants to brush up on their makeup artistry skills, whilst updating their makeup brushes.

Unlike a lot of experience gifts, along with their gift voucher, they also receive a gift [their brush set] to unwrap on Christmas Day.

This perfect Christmas gift would be loved by mum, daughter and grandmother! Ticking a lot of people off your Christmas gift list in one fell swoop, and giving them such a lovely experience along with a professional brush set.

To book yours, simply get in touch.

I can post you the gift voucher for the Makeup Lesson & Brush Set (postage is free). I can also send the makeup brush set directly to you if you wish, to include with the voucher underneath the Christmas tree (for a small postage fee).

Offer ends 31st November 2021.

So get in touch quickly to avoid disappointment!

What is the Best Makeup To Wear With a Mask in 2021?

18/2/2021

Picture

As we are all adapting to the new (and hopefully temporary!) normal of wearing face masks, a very common query from my clients has been how to adjust their beauty and makeup routine. Another has been how to avoid or deal with ‘maskne’ as part of their beauty and makeup routine.

So, I have pulled together 11 beauty tips to help you navigate around this tricky new skincare & makeup terrain. To help give you flawless, long lasting makeup to wear under your mask whilst minimising/avoiding maskne as much as possible!

   Begin with Your Skin

Your skin is the essential base to your makeup, mask or no mask. So, keeping your skin as healthy as possible is key, through your diet, water intake and exercise, along with a good skincare routine.

1 Cleansing:

When it comes to cleansing, it’s important keep washing your face in the morning and evening, and after wearing a mask or sweating.

For anyone suffering from maskne or breakouts, a gentle cleanser can help remove excess oil, sweat, and bacteria. Would avoid cleansers that contain potentially harsher ingredients such as alcohol or perfume. It’s also important to avoid rubbing or over-exfoliating, as the skin will already be inflamed.

2 Moisturisation:

For both the face (and undereye area), it’s important to keep your skin hydrated with good serums as well as day and night moisturisers. As wearing the mask for extended periods of time can irritate the skin due to friction. And between this, sweat and warm air circulating inside your mask, it’s the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, leading to breakouts and maskne potentially.
It’s important to always wear sunscreen also, which goes on top of your moisturiser.

3 Face Mask:

Ensure to wear a clean face mask to avoid breakouts or spreading infection, and wash reusable ones after each usage.

Using more skin-friendly materials such as cotton and silk can help also.

To avoid any bacteria or the Covid-19 virus reaching onto your skin, remember to bag it up after being used, rather than leaving it lying loose in your handbag or car.

If you are looking for a stylish, reusable face mask, then would check out the Edinburgh based company, Freja Designer.

Then onto Your Makeup

4 Primer:

A facial primer is key for adding longevity to your makeup, both with and without a face mask. So, it’s worth investing in a good quality product.

A couple of primers that are suitable for most skin types would be Mac Prep+Prime Skin Base Visage and Illamasqua Hydra Veil.

Both are non-comedogenic, helping to minimise the risk of clogging pores, therefore, breakouts and maskne.

5 Foundation:

For anyone wishing to wear makeup under their mask, having a good quality, non-comedogenic foundation is important to help avoid clogging pores, thereby, minimising breakouts and maskne.

Personally, I really like the Bare Minerals Original Powder foundation. It’s light-medium in coverage, so is not too heavy for day wear or for wearing underneath a mask. It also has SPF 15, and is non-comedogenic. It’s also super quick and easy to apply with a face brush.

PRO TIP: Set your foundation with a little translucent powder down the t-zone if needed.

Picture
Bare Minerals Original Powder Foundation, £29.00

6 Concealer:

With the lower half of your face being covered by the face mask, the attention is now firmly focussed on the upper half of your face. So, more than ever, it’s important to conceal your undereye area.

PRO TIP:  Place the concealer in upside-down triangles under your eyes to help disguise any undereye bags, and also give a more wide-eyed, awake appearance.

Cover any blemishes with concealer where needed.

PRO TIP: As the Bare Minerals Original is powder in formulation, place any liquid/stick concealers underneath the powder. This avoids any lifting of the foundation off the skin.

7 Blusher:

Although your blusher may not be visible, using a long-wearing, non-transferable formula is a good idea if you plan to take your mask off at any point. This way, you’ll have perfectly rosy cheeks that will stay put!

If you find your powder blusher isn’t bearing up underneath your mask, try placing a cream blusher underneath the powder blusher for extra staying power.

The exception to this is if you are wearing a powder formulation foundation, where placing a cream blusher on top will lift the foundation off the skin. Therefore, cream blushers work for cream/ liquid foundations, whilst powder blushers work for powder foundations.

8 Eye Makeup:

As we all know, since the pandemic, makeup has been all about the eyes with product sales booming in this area. So, the below tips are noteworthy for your makeup when wearing a mask.

To help give your makeup full impact, you can emphasise your eyes more than normal, and eyeshadow is key, since it’s the first thing people are drawn to beyond your mask.

I love a soft brown smokey eye, which you can wear just on the top lid for a more natural look or you can also add some shadow along the lower lash line for a bit more drama, depending on your mood and which supermarket you are off to!

This also helps make the eyes appear bigger.

Picture

You can have a wee play with eyeshadow textures and try out some more shimmery textures, bringing attention immediately to the eyes.

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to eyeshadow palettes, but some of my favs are Urban Decay, Mac, Huda Beauty and e.l.f. Cosmetics. They all provide a great range of textures as well as shades & tones.

PRO TIP:  To open out the eyes even more and make them appear brighter and bigger, apply some highlighter to the inner corners of the eye.

Picture

To complete your eye makeup look, swipe on some winged eyeliner and a couple of layers of volumizing & lengthening mascara.

PRO TIP:  Apply some extra mascara to the outer lashes to help those beautiful peepers to pop even more.

PRO TIP:  Don’t forget your lash curler to enhance your lashes and open up your eyes as well.

9 Brows:

Boosting those beautiful brows is important, as they not only help frame your face but also your eyes. Ungroomed brows can stand out even more (for all the wrong reasons) when your face is half covered with a mask.

Plus, when you are playing up your eyes more, it’s important to remember your brows. It really does make a huge difference to your eye makeup when your brows are on point too!

PRO TIP: Try shaping one of your brows and stand back from the mirror to see the affect it has on your eye makeup versus the undone brow.

After grooming your brows, fill in any sparse areas with a brow products such as a brow powder, gel or pencil.

10 Lips:

So, when it comes to lips under your face mask, there seems to be two main camps…

The first one is to use a matte textured lip product for longevity & minimising transference, e.g. lipstick. However, it can be a little drying on the lips.

The other camp is more for a moisturising lip balm to keep the lips hydrated, due to the friction from the mask. However, they can transfer and don’t last as long.

And, I’m in the middle somewhere! I like to wear lip liner (for longevity) with a sheer lip balm (for hydration), that’s not too glossy or sticky. Then just dab it with some tissue & a little translucent powder once applied, to take the balminess down a notch and help minimise it from transferring.

At the moment, I’m loving Max Factor’s Colour Intensifying Lip Balms, which have a lovely buildable colour from sheer to vibrant. They’re not too glossy whilst still being moisturising. They are midway between a typical lip balm and a lipstick, which is perfect for a face mask!

Love the ‘Charming Coral’ and ‘Sumptuous Candy’ in particular, and as they are neutral shades, they work well under the mask.

Picture

11 Setting Your Makeup:

And the final big tip for increasing your makeup longevity under the face mask, is to use a setting spray. With or without a mask, it really does help to keep your makeup fresh all day, and stay in the same position it started in!

PRO TIP: Use a beauty blender to blend out any larger droplets.

Urban Decay All-Nighter and Mac Prep+Prime Fix are two of my favs - though Urban Decay All-Nighter is alcohol based, so may dry out more sensitive skin types or if you're suffering from maskne.

e.l.f. Cosmetics Makeup Mist & Set Spray packs a real punch for a more budget friendly product as well, and is alcohol free.

Picture

Picture
e.l.f. Makeup Mist & Set Clear Spray, £5.00
And when it comes to maskne, try to avoid comedogenic products (both skincare and cosmetics), which tend to clog pores and cause breakouts.

If your maskne is severe, or persistent, be sure to follow up with your dermatologist or healthcare provider.

Here’s a handy wee checker for pore clogging ingredients, just copy and paste the ingredient listing into the box and hey presto! Simple.

A skincare kit that could be great for you if you are a maskne sufferer is DRVICTORIA™ Mask-ne Skincare Pack.
Picture
Dr Victoria’s Mask-ne Skincare Pack, rrp £153.00 (on sale for just £115 as of Feb 2021)

The REVEAL wash unblocks clogged pores and removes the build-up of excess oil.

The SOOTHE & HYDRATE serum rehydrates your skin.

And the ACCUMAX capsules will fortify your skin to help prevent breakouts.

The products are beautifully packaged, and pack a punch when it comes to their actives.

The kit is suitable for all skin types apart from sensitive skin with rosacea.

For anyone who wishes to learn more about their Mask-ne Skincare Pack,  get in touch with the fabulous team at DRVICTORIA™, who would be more than happy to help.

For a maskne repair skin treatment, I can also recommend Edinburgh based, Zest Skin Spa, who are also a fantastic team of ladies, and always happy to help.

The skincare advice given is based on my experience and knowledge of working with skin when it comes to makeup & my clients. Where my approach is always to begin with the skin to ensure it is as healthy as it can be, which then acts as a good base for the makeup.

And if you would like to receive some bespoke advice about your own makeup routine when it comes to wearing a face mask, and/or help avoiding maskne, I have a new virtual Face Mask Makeup Lesson. So feel free to get in touch to find out more.

I hope you found this blog useful! Interested to hear your thoughts on both how you manage your face mask makeup and keep your skin healthy!

MinFei Jelly Crystal Lipstick Product Review

22/12/2020

Picture
This is quite possibly the most beautiful lipstick I have ever seen 😍

The minute I saw it online, I knew I had to try it!

PictureImage Source: Wish.com

When it arrived, it was packaged well and the entire product design is just lovely.

I was really eager to test it out!

So, here are my thoughts…

🌸 This clear lipstick is infused with a clear jelly formulation, with gold specks, and a tiny & very pretty dried flower placed right in the centre of the lipstick. It's basically the glass-encased rose from Beauty and the Beast, the lipstick of your dreams! 🤩

🌸 It glides beautifully smooth onto the lips, creating a natural but glossy shine.

🌸 It has temperature change technology with the colour changing with the temperature and pH of the lip. Meaning everyone has their own unique colour and suits all skin tones!

In this video you will see how the colour intensifies as it adjusts to your skin.

Its basically a very clever, good looking lipstick!
Picture
🌸 It has a pretty bright pink colour.

🌸 Waterproof – and really doesn’t budge! Even when swatched onto my arm (as per video & image above) it was still there after a shower! See below also the wear test results on my lips..

Picture

This is what it looks like on the lips from initial application, after a couple of minutes and then 3 hours later (after a long walk in the woods, a snack and drink!).

So as you can see, for a lipstick that is more like a gloss in formulation and texture, the staying power is really good for a glossy lipstick.

PRO TIP: Using a neutral pink lip liner similar in colour to your own lip colour will also help intensify the colour and increase its longevity on the lip even further.

🌸 Moisturising - but expected a little more given its glossy texture.

🌸 Sweet fruity scent. For sensitive lips, would do a wee patch test first.

🌸 Slightly sweet taste with a slight bitter after taste.

🌸 Pink vintage styled packaging.

🌸Comes as a set of 6 or individually, though the colours don't appear to be significantly different on the lips.

Picture

Overall, the packaging is adorable, the product is beautiful & unique in appearance and the formula is a little nourishing. The only downside is that there is a slightly bitter after taste, which fades after a wee while.

And it will certainly look very pretty in your bathroom cabinet!

Charlotte Tilbury has also released a similar product – Glowgasm Lips, which I need to try as well! This is at a higher price point of £22.00rrp (because it is Charlotte Tilbury after all!), versus just £2.87rrp for the Menfei lipstick. So, at this low price the Minfei is a steal!

Have you tried this lipstick or another jelly lipstick? If so, what did you think of it?

Please feel free to let me know in the Comments below, I'd love to hear your thoughts 👇

I hope you found this product review helpful. Tag a friend who will love this review & lipstick!

Wishing you and your family a very happy & healthy 2021 💖

Virtual Makeup Lesson & Brush Set Special Offer

19/10/2020

Picture
With every virtual lesson purchased you can now, for the month of November 2020, get a high quality professional 12 brush set for just £40 (normally £80rrp) – an amazing discount of £40!

This is the perfect opportunity to upgrade those tired old makeup brushes that you’ve had since 2005, with high quality professional vegan and cruelty-free brushes.

Have you invested time and money into your makeup products?

How much time have you invested in your makeup brushes?

As any makeup artist or makeup expert will advise, brushes are the most important thing in your makeup bag.

All those premium makeup products you’ve spent so long selecting and investing in won’t be shown to their best potential, unless they’ve been applied with the right tool.

Your brush set can be built up one by one, but if you’re serious about your brushes, taking the plunge and buying a set will save you money in the long-run. As the price per brush will be significantly reduced. Plus you then have a beautiful matching set!

Purchasing professional high quality brushes is more of an investment. And having tried and tested this 12 brush set (which is now a staple in my kit), this is a fantastic asset to any makeup bag. Plus, being half price for the month of November, makes them very affordable for professional high quality brushes.

This full makeup brush set has the tools to create all your beauty looks. From the natural daytime look, to a more dramatic cut-crease eye makeup look that you would wear out on a Saturday night.

My makeup lesson clients absolutely love these brushes and are a very popular purchase after their lesson.

And when booked with the virtual makeup lesson, you will be taught how to use each brush properly by a professional make-up artist (i.e. yours truly!). Speaking with my clients, being unsure about what brushes to use and how to use them properly is such a common issue. There are so many brushes on the market that it can be quite daunting.

More about the brushes themselves…

This 12 piece brush set is expertly crafted making application a total dream. Each make-up brush is specially selected & designed for applying your make-up to a very high standard like a pro!

It contains all the brushes required to create any look. With every brush you could ever need, from foundation to powder and eyeliner to shadow blender, this is hands down, one of the best makeup brush sets in the professional makeup brush arena.

For base makeup:
Concealer brush – has a small graduation tip to allow more precision when covering blemishes & applying product. You can also use this to highlight just under the eyebrows.
Foundation brush – essential for that flawless finish.
Blending brush – has an angled shaped head, with dense but soft bristles. It is used to buff & blend products together - great for blending blusher, bronzer & highlighter.

Powder brush – is soft & most dense texture wise, which allows it to pick up & evenly distribute loose or pressed powder to the face in order to set make-up.
Blush brush – is made of soft but dense fibres that are rounded & tapered at the end, so it can apply & blend product to the shape of your cheekbones. It can also be used for contouring and highlighting.

Eye & lip makeup brushes
For eyes & lip makeup:
Smokey Eye brush – it is a pointed but soft bristled brush which will soften & blend out the eyeshadow in the socket line & out to the outer edges of the eye.
Shader brush – it is soft & flat with fine fibres to shade the eyelid with your base colour. It is round & tapered to build intense colour or really pack on pigment to the eyelid.
Highlighter brush – a softly packed bristled brush, which is slightly angled to blend highlighter under the brow bone.
Shadow Blender brush - has close contact fibres for precise socket line and outer eye application.
Angled Eyeliner brush – has an angled sharp edge with soft fibres, which allows a perfect line. Ideal for using with gel liner or eyeshadow, and also brow products.
Eyeliner brush - very fine tipped point that gives precision for fine lines such as the wing.
Lipstick brush – ensures perfect coverage and precision for full pouty lips, completing any makeup look.

They are hand crafted to the highest standard with luxe fibres to give a professional and soft finish. They are also vegan friendly & cruelty free.

This brush set has been used with Celebrities to Fashion Shoots & most recently was an Official Backstage product at London Fashion Week.

As well as coming with a very useful illustrated guide on how to use each brush, these 12 brushes also come with a handy brush holder.

Making them very portable and also easy to store.

As a make-up artist, I find myself reaching for them over my other brushes in my kit - they are so easy to use and beautifully soft. I also have a set for my own personal makeup bag, and are a godsend when going away on holidays - as it gives me a full brush set that can be easily packed with my makeup!

Brand New Service Update: Virtual Makeup Lessons!

10/7/2020

Picture
As a professional makeup artist working with hundreds of faces, my top priority is always to fulfil my client’s vision in any way possible. Until recently, my makeup lessons and bridal tutorials have always been in person, and they are two of my favourite client interactions that I have the great privilege of doing!

As I have been continuously receiving requests for makeup lessons and bridal tutorials from far afield, and with the current Covid-19 situation, I decided it was high time to bring them online (and have face to face makeup lessons and bridal tutorials when it is safe to do as well).

So, thanks to the wonders of technology, and with the recent rise in popularity of Zoom meetings and virtual learning, I am now able to offer personalised virtual makeup lessons and bridal tutorials!

This live video call option offers great flexibility, making makeup training accessible to anyone anywhere, and without having to set one foot outside your front door! This is perfect for any of my clients who live too far away and/or have very busy schedules.

All makeup lessons can be provided virtually via Zoom, Skype or Facebook video calling.

So, you no longer have to feel stuck with what you are doing when it comes to your makeup. You can now work with me to learn how to confidently create beautiful makeup that suits your complexion and personal style that you will love!

Picture

So, who are these virtual makeup lessons for?

The beauty of virtual makeup lessons is that they can be for anyone of any skill level.

Perhaps you are in a bit of a makeup rut, using the same products and doing the same thing for years. So you feel that you just need a makeup bag makeover and updated look.

Perhaps you have been trying to figure out how to successfully cover those pesky dark circles and what products to use. And as we cannot go into a makeup counter just now and try products on, you don’t know where to start when it comes to working out what products and shades to buy on your own.

Perhaps you have watched a heap of YouTube videos, but cannot seem to get the suggestions and techniques to work for you, because it’s not your face they’re working on. You need someone to teach you what to do specifically for your unique face.

Perhaps you want someone to take the confusion out of which makeup brushes you really should be using and how to actually use them.

Perhaps your wish is to simply know what to do with all of the makeup you already have. And lots of products and brushes have just sat in your makeup bag unused and wasted, because you’re not quite sure what to do with it all.

These are just some of the issues my clients express to me and the options of what you can learn at my virtual lessons are really endless – as they are all totally customised to you!

Wherever you live, whatever you need, my virtual makeup lessons could be the perfect solution to help you master your makeup routine.

As part of this new service I am also offering a Tween/Teenage makeup lesson. This is an area I feel quite passionate about, having been a teenager myself that lacked self-esteem, who tried to cover up with make-up rather than just gently enhancing with a more light and natural application.

So, I feel it is so important to help tweens and teenagers
get started on the right foot with their makeup journey.

At this young age, I believe it is all about confidence boosting and looking after your skin. And should they wish to wear makeup, then help teach them to create beautiful, age appropriate makeup looks. It is important to educate them about the pressure of social media and photoshopped images, which just set unrealistic and unachievable goals for young people.

As part of this service, I also do Tween/Teenage virtual make up lesson parties, which are a fun way to learn a new skill with their wee friends.

Picture

For the bridal tutorial – this is even more popular than before, with Covid-19 and brides having to do their own makeup. And also, for brides who live too far away to have a face to face tutorial. And it is already proving to be a hit with my current brides-to-be!

Picture

Linked to the Face Mask Makeup tutorial, I have also written a very helpful blog offering lots of makeup and beauty tips on the best makeup for face masks.

Another Fantastic Year in 2019!

26/12/2019

Firstly, a very Happy New Year to you!

Well, 2019 has been another fantastic year in business for Colette Casher Make-Up Artistry, with so many standout, special moments!

There have been lots of fabulous weddings, special occasion makeups, make-up lessons, a brand new masterclass (with more to follow in 2020!), oh and won 3 awards!! :)

I've had so much fun working alongside my fantastic clients and collaborating with other creatives and wedding suppliers.

I've had some of my brides in for a makeup lesson or special occasion makeup (and even my masterclass - with the lovely Bryn!) before and even after their wedding day. Which is so lovely, as we get to know one another even better prior to the big day.

I finally opened my new wee studio where my clients can come along to and relax, with some refreshments. Away from the hustle and bustle, and just focus on themselves and getting pampered or learn how to make themselves up. A lot of my brides, makeup lesson clients and also my regular special occasion clients have been taking full advantage of this! :)

Looking ahead, I’m really excited to work with my lovely 2020 brides, makeup lesson, masterclass and special occasion clients – cannot wait to be part of it all with you.

There are also some other exciting things planned for 2020 - so watch this space! It promises to be another fun & fantastic year! :)

Below are images of just some of my standout moments for 2019 - I hope you enjoy them!

I organised the first masterclass in November, which was a total success. Everyone did such a wonderful job recreating the look on themselves, learnt loads of makeup tips & tricks, and we all had such a giggle as well.

At the masterclass, I created a trend based Christmas Party look on our lovely model, Ilaria...

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for all your support & business over the past year. I really couldn't do it without all of my fantastic clients, other creatives & suppliers, family and friends!

Happy New Year & decade! And may 2020 be an extraordinary one, bringing you health & happiness!

Warm wishes,

Colettex
