Weddings & Special Occasion Makeup:

'I cannot recommend Colette highly enough. She did my bridal makeup, makeup for my mum - Mother of the bride - and my 2 bridesmaids.

Colette is exceptionally talented and versatile. She immediately put us all at ease, particularly as we hadn’t all had makeup done professionally before. She has such a warm, friendly disposition, which she combines seamlessly with skill and professionalism. She is also extremely organised. Her knowledge and expertise is evident, and she combined this with our own requests and preferences to create individualised looks for us all.

Colette skilfully used the trials to perfect the looks and make some small but crucial tweaks to the makeup to ensure it was perfect on the day, which it was.

As soon as I met Colette and we did the trial I had total confidence and faith in Colette that the wedding makeup would be perfect. We were all absolutely delighted with the final results - our makeup lasted the whole day, and amazingly still looked completely flawless after many hours, including eating, drinking and dancing!

She gave us some really fantastic personalised tips and tricks for during the day itself, but also for makeup in general.

Colette’s very warm, kind, and down-to-earth nature meant that she very quickly felt like she was part of our gang - it felt like we had known her for years! - and I will always have such fond memories of her involvement in our special morning as we got ready for the big day.

'I first met Colette when she applied my bridesmaids make up for my cousins wedding. When my wedding day came around, there was no question who I wanted to do my bridal parties make up. Put simply, Colette is so lovely, knowledgeable and great at what she does.

We had trials prior to my wedding day which were great, Colette was eager to know how we all found our make up and any tweaks we wanted on the day were no trouble at all.

Some of my bridal party do not wear much make up on a day to day basis and were a little apprehensive about getting their make up applied but were over the moon with how natural yet glamorous Colette made them look/feel.

Other members of my bridal party have sensitive skin and were also apprehensive about getting their make up applied but Colette invested a lot of time going back and forth figuring out what would work best for her and making sure that she was happy with her make up. Colette also gave us lots of useful advice for our skin types and routines.

On my big day, Colette made us all look/feel amazing and it was lovely having her with us on the morning of my wedding.

‘Colette was recommended to me by Mette Baillie, of Bridal by Freja. I’d been to a couple of wedding shows and was disappointed to see no black brides in the MUAs' portfolios. I knew I wanted my make up done professionally on my wedding day. Putting on make up isn’t something I’ve ever been confident doing myself and have always worn minimal make up because of this.

My fiancé, Angie doesn’t wear make up and was so sure she didn’t want her make up done on our wedding day until she came home the day of my make up trial and saw Colette’s work, Angie was thrilled.
Angie and I are in a same sex relationship and when I researched for a MUA, I wanted to work with someone who was able to show diversity in the range of clients they had.

Angie and my Best Woman, Rachel, were extremely nervous about wearing make up for the wedding, but in all our cases Colette dealt with any of our concerns, completely put us at ease and filling us with confidence. Colette kept in touch with Angie and I leading up to the big day, making sure we were ok and confirming the plans for the day well in advance, so we had nothing to worry about.

I got married in Scotland but live in London, and Colette was brilliant at keeping in touch as our plans progressed.

She was extremely flexible and conducted two separate trials for myself, my mum and my bridesmaids, taking notes and photographs to ensure she was able to replicate even the tiniest detail on the big day.

'As a black woman living in the Lothians, I had the most difficult time looking for a makeup artist who could do makeup properly on my skin tone. I'd tried a couple before I luckily came across Colette's website on Google. Colette had photos and reviews of black clients so I already felt some hope that she might be the one. Then we had our first trial where I was really pleased with the results and booked her for my wedding.

I chose the all day service because I get shiny-faced easily, and I also wanted a change of makeup in the evening from when I changed from my white dress to my Nigerian traditional wear. Colette did really well to accommodate my wishes and provided a great service throughout. I'm not sure I would have looked as great in my photos if it wasn't for her. 'I had only had my make-up done professionally on one occasion before and it turned out a disaster, so choosing a make-up artist to do my make-up on our wedding day was a really big decision for me. I am so pleased I came across Colette's make-up artist services at a wedding fayre. The other companies I had looked at only seemed to do one 'style' of make-up which was far too over the top for me. After looking at Colette's portfolio it was really clear that she tailored the looks to what her brides/clients wanted.

After emailing Colette back and forward with various questions (which she answered in a timely and friendly manner), I booked us in to get our make-up done on the wedding day and also for the pre-wedding make-up trial. She had a lot on her hands with me, two bridesmaids, my mum and future mother-in-law, but we were all delighted with the looks achieved at the trial. Colette is a true professional at what she does and is so friendly. She even gave us hints and tips during our trial and also advised us what products we might want to purchase for use on the big day. We felt Colette really understood the natural look we wanted on the wedding day, and took the time to find out about our skin types, usual make-up looks and likes/dislikes.

On the wedding day Colette arrived in plenty of time and got set up in the corner of the room. We were all made-up perfectly, incorporating the couple of tweaks we wanted to make after the trial, and had a quick check-over/touch-up before we headed downstairs for the ceremony. We looked amazing (even if i do say so myself!).

My skin can be quite oily and I tend to find make-up slides off my face with the tiniest bit of sweat. Thankfully the make-up Colette uses is fantastic - it doesn't feel cakey or heavy but lasted all day and all night (even in the summer heat after a lot of dancing!). None of us had any make-up runs or smudges - everything lasted perfectly, as if we'd just had it done. One of my bridesmaids didn't take her make-up off before bed and woke up the next day with her face still looking perfect!

I am so pleased I came across Colette at the wedding fayre. She is a true artist and professional and knows what she's doing. She was personable and friendly and put us at ease, even bringing along snacks and helping calm my nerves on the wedding morning. My bridesmaids and I actually feel quite sad that we won't be seeing Colette again soon, although we've all got her details to hand for the next special occasion!

'Fantastic! There were 6 of us, the bride, 4 bridesmaids and myself. We had make-up trials which meant that on the day of the wedding Colette knew exactly what we were looking for. I was first to have my make-up done at 07.15 – a very early start but absolutely necessary to ensure there was time for hair appointments etc.

My make-up was still very much in place the following morning at 03.00!

'I booked Colette after meeting her at Edinburgh Corn Exchange Wedding Fair back in November 2015. I had been following her on Facebook for a few months and was really impressed with other brides and bridal party pictures. Straight away she made me feel relaxed.

'I'm very much a beginner and have rarely worn makeup in the past because I've always struggled with it and never knew where to start in trying to teach myself. I decided to try one of Colette's Makeup Lessons - Easy Evening Makeup, and I'm so glad I did!

Colette was very friendly and patient throughout the lesson, offering me plenty of tips and advice best suited for my needs. Everything was completed step by step with Colette applying makeup to one side of my face, and then I would copy her technique on the other with her guidance which was a great way to learn. 'I was given a make up lesson with Colette as a birthday gift. As a busy new mum thinking getting ready to return to work, I haven't really had the chance to spend much time on myself or my face over the past few months. 'I recently booked Colette for a virtual group makeup lesson with me and my teenage daughter.

Neither of us wear makeup, or very little, and wanted to learn the basics.

I had booked Colette to do my bridal makeup, but due to Covid, I was unable to have her there on my wedding day. So, instead Colette offered to do a virtual bridal makeup tutorial with me.

Initially, I was a little hesitant as I am not great at doing my makeup, but over Zoom, Colette very patiently took me through it all step by step. We talked through everything in preparation for the makeup look, including things like my dress, bridesmaids dresses, accessories, flowers, etc. And between us both (well mainly Colette!), we created the most perfect bridal look for me, and most importantly, one that I would be able to recreate myself!

Step by step, Colette did the makeup on herself and I then recreated it on me with Colette’s guidance.

Colette also gave me lots of makeup tips and information both at the tutorial and afterwards in a fantastic report, which detailed exactly what products and brushes were used. I also got the recording of the tutorial to refer to, which was invaluable, and something you wouldn’t get at a face to face. Colette was also able to get me a discount on some of the products and the brush set that she used at the tutorial as well, which was very handy.

We had such a giggle and by the end of the tutorial, I felt comfortable enough to go away and practice my beautiful bridal look on myself.

I can’t thank Colette enough for helping me do something I thought I would never be able to do. She gave me the confidence and skills to do it. And skills I now have for life!

‘I had a virtual make up lesson (for a simple day look) with Colette and it was great.

I had never really done make up and was a bit worried of it being virtual but it all went great.

Not only did Colette give me great directions whilst on the class, but i got a full report afterwards with all the techniques we had done, products used, and recommendations for doing it again on my own.

Although I still need some practice, I feel confident doing basic make up now and taking things from there.

'Had a 45 minute Makeup Bag Revamp virtual lesson and it was brilliant.

My Eyes Only virtual session today was my second makeup lesson with Colette. This time via Zoom.

I was given a gift of full face to face make up lesson, which I had just before full lockdown in March last year. I was needing some guidance on how to create an ‘evening eye’, so jumped at the chance of Colette’s Eye Only session. I had been taught how to create an everyday look at my first lesson.

Colette talked through which colours are best used to bring out my eye colour and went through how to apply the eyeshadow to get the desired effect. We then moved on to eyeliner, mascara and brow application too. Colette would apply to her eyes and I copied with Colette correcting me if I went a bit off track.

I do feel better equipped now to put what I learnt today and at my first session into practice, especially now I have all the brushes (which I purchased prior to the lesson from Colette).

This session has given me the confidence to practice and master this skill. Given that we now need to wear face masks 😷 your eyes are the only part of your face that is visible. It was a brilliant session and would highly recommend Colette.

Colette kept me updated with certain ideas about my plan for make-up and she was brilliant at listening to and taking on board what I was looking for.

When I finally met Colette on the day of the shoot again she was brilliant, very pleasant and so happy to be involved with my project. When Colette met the model she instantly put her at ease and away she went on her journey of her application of her artistic talent. Colette was so focused and so attentive with the model. Colette also kept me in the loop by asking my thoughts on how the make-up was going. When the make-up was finished the final look of the model was stunning, and the make-up was amazing.

I cannot thank or recommend Colette enough for the help she gave me and also the artistic skills of a fine craftswoman. An absolute delight to work with and I can't wait for the next shoot.

Having done a few shoots in the past, I found it really easy to get on with Colette from the start. She has a great ability to put you at ease and is both extremely professional but personable at the same time.

I also noticed that she was really flexible in working to the timings of the photographer, not easily flustered she slotted in required changes and alterations to my make up quickly whilst paying close attention to detail.
